Skywhales Across Australia, Temora
Start your weekend a little differently.
At first light, Skywhales Across Australia drifts into Temora - bringing Patricia Piccinini’s larger-than-life balloon sculptures to the Recreation Grounds for a 90-minute sunrise experience.
Pack a picnic blanket, grab a coffee and settle in as these monumental forms slowly lift into the morning sky. It’s quiet, surreal and not something you see every day in regional Australia.
There’ll be coffee vans and bacon and egg rolls on hand, making it an easy early start.
The experience continues across town, with opportunities to meet the artist: a children’s book reading at the Temora Library from 11am, followed by an artist talk at Temora Theatres at 1pm.
Presented in collaboration with the National Gallery of Australia, Skywhales Across Australia is a thought-provoking work celebrating care, connection and community — and a rare chance to experience it right here in the Riverina.

Griffith Shaheedi Tournament (Sikh Games)
Every June long weekend the Sikh community holds a two-day event at Ted Scobie Oval against the backdrop of Scenic Hill in Griffith. '
Enjoy traditional Indian cuisine throughout the day, soccer, tug-o-war, kabaddi; a wrestling sport originating from the northern part of the Indian state of Punjab, and athletic events for the kids.
This popular cultural event attracts thousands of people to Griffith from around Australia and overseas, to compete in and watch the games and enjoy the celebrations.

Lockhart Picnic Races
The lively Lockhart Picnic Races are back, continuing racing in the Lockhart Shire. The Picnics have continued to draw crowds from near and far and has long been considered one of the best races in country New South Wales.
There is plenty of time to enjoy a picnic lunch trackside before the racing commences.
Food will be available to purchase on the day. All you need to bring is your drinks!
Fashion and style are always an important part of any race day and Lockhart Picnic Races are no exception, with one of the race day highlights being the hotly contested judging of Fashions on the Field!
Booligal Sheep Races
The Booligal Sheep Races are a truly unique outback event that has been running for over 20 years. The day features heats of 5 sheep all vying to take out the Booligal Cup.
Visitors can hire a sheep on the day to race for just $50. There is plenty of space to settle in for the day with your own picnic or enjoy a steak sandwich from the all-day BBQ.

Mirrool Silo Kick
One of those events absolutely not to be missed, the annual Mirrool Silo Kick is back, and yes, someone will once again attempt to boot a Sherrin over a set of towering concrete silos.
What started in the ’80s as a casual $50 bet, when Riverina local and AFL legend Billy Brownless returned home for a wedding and casually launched a footy over the Mirrool silos, has become one of the region’s most gloriously unhinged (and beloved) annual traditions.
These days, it’s less a “backyard dare” and more a country, family-fun affair. We’re talking jumping castles, mini train rides, slushies, fairy floss and ice cream vans for the small humans. Plus, kids’ football and netball comps with cash and prizes, tug-of-war showdowns, a gumboot throwing comp (naturally) and a fiercely contested ladies’ netball shoot-off.
For the grown-ups? An all-day BBQ and bar, plenty of sideline commentary and a whole lot of small-town spirit.
It’s chaotic. It’s nostalgic. It’s raising serious funds for charity (over $200k and counting). And it’s exactly the kind of road-trip-worthy Riverina event you didn’t know you needed in your calendar.

The Spirit of the Land Festival is a colourful and vibrant celebration of the land. With fine and Indigenous art, photo exhibitions, extensive high-quality markets, fabulous foods, open gardens, live music, farm tours, vintage vehicles and the Leeton Lions train rides, the Festival is a fantastic experience for friends and family to enjoy.
A highlight of the Festival is the National Farm Art Awards, featuring an incredible display of farm art sculptures fashioned from recycled metal, rusty old farm materials and elements of the land. Hay Rainbow on The Plains Festival
The Rainbow on the Plains is a festival of fun, support, inclusion and celebration of LGBTQIA+ community, people from culturally diverse communities and anyone who loves to celebrate inclusion.
Throughout the Festival weekend, you can expect an all-ages concert packed with kid’s entertainment, food vendors and incredible entertainment, a street parade full of colour and cheer, a Fair Day for all to sit back and enjoy or do a little shopping, an adult only after party with DJs, drag performers and much more and the annual Rainbow on the Plains Pride Cup.

ZÖJ: Give Water to Birds
ZÖJ are coming to Ganmain Hall.
An experimental cross-cultural music duo from Australia, consisting of Gelareh Pour on Kamancheh, Voice, and Qeychak, and Brian O’Dwyer on drumkit and percussion.
With a commitment to authentic intercultural expression, ZÖJ blends traditional elements from their respective backgrounds with contemporary experimental influences. Gelareh’s virtuosic string and vocal performances intertwine seamlessly with Brian’s dynamic drumming, resulting in a captivating and accessible sound.

Narrandera Town2Beach Running Festival
Town2Beach is a family friendly and competitive run, walk or ride event that sees participants enter into one of the following events - 21.1km, 13km, 7km or 1km.
Along the courses are lollies, water and Gatorade for runners. Participants receive a medal upon completion and are welcome and encouraged to stay for food and drinks.
Hay Pro Rodeo
Held at Hay Showground, this iconic event brings professional rodeo riders from across Australia to town, all competing for their share of over $21,000 in prize money (plus added prizes for every winner). Expect fast-paced action, fearless athletes and an electric atmosphere from the moment the gates open from 6pm.

Leeton Open Gardens
Peak over the fence at some of Leeton’s most thoughtfully designed, lovingly maintained gardens.

The details:
Start at the Leeton Visitor Information Centre (10 Yanco Ave) between 9:30am and 12pm to collect your wristband and map, then follow it from garden to garden (look for the pink gazebos).

Between 200 and 500 beautifully restored cars will be on display for the Show ‘N’ Shine on Easter Sunday, creating a vibrant festival atmosphere that draws enthusiasts and families alike. From polished chrome and timeless classics to lovingly maintained vintage treasures, there’s something to admire at every turn.

Twighlight Easter Egg Drop
As the sun sets over Griffith, this twilight celebration leans into everything a long weekend should be — relaxed, family-friendly and just a little bit magic.
It starts slow. Kids dive into Easter-themed activities and entertainment, while parents settle in with food, drinks and a spot on the grass. As the light fades, the big screen comes on for a family movie under the stars.
Then comes the main event.
Hundreds of chocolate eggs dropped from above, raining down from a helicopter in a moment that’s equal parts chaos and delight.

This publication brings together editorial imagery, event documentation, and reflections from key collaborators, forming a considered archive of the project and the moment it represented for our region.

A handcrafted feast for the senses where local makers, foodies and weekend wanderers collide, the Country Makers Easter Markets returns to Marrar after its huge first round success.
What started as a small “come-see-what-we-make” vibe has turned into a full-on community event. Think artisan market stalls packed with handmade, homegrown and handcrafted gifts, sweet eats and treats, food stalls and activities that keep the whole crew happy.

The route? Starting at Hay Bowling Club, winding through Balranald and Homebush for lunch, on to Maude (fuel stop included), before finishing up at the South Hay Hotel. Ride it. Drive it. Or jump on the bus. Your call.
